It is made up of synthesisers, guitars, drums, and keyboards.
They sig about romance and break ups/heartbreak.
I think the target audience of pop is for people the ages of 14-40 roughly.

Rock magazines have a significant similarity as the mastheads in all these posters are in standard block capitals. The magazines have also got a a similar colour pallet of black and red with the occasional other colour.

The typical colour pallet on a rap/hiphop magazine is either fairly bright or using black and white. The shot is taken at head height the person is posing, the font on the pages are large and easy to read.

MOJO Magazine analysis.   15/10/18
To analyse the cover of a MOJO Magazine linking it to genre and audience.
Shot type:
The mid shot, shot type is taken there as it is made to focus the attention onto the star vehicle who is made to look concentrated and focused on the camera, like his motive to music, which is common with his target audience. This links to the rock genre that dave grohl is involved in. The fandom of the target audience that is involved with dave grohl will want to read as he will be easily recognisable on the front.
Star vehicle:
The star vehicle on this magazine is Dave Grohl who is a band member of the rock band nirvana. He is well know throughout the genre of rock which is also what some of the target audience will be apart of.
Colour pallet:
The colour palette for the magazine is  made up of black, red and yellow. The red and the yellow are used to make the lettering 'pop' from against the background. The black is a very common colour to be used on magazines with rock used audience.
Band/artists mentioned:
The artists that are mentioned on the front page are all linked with the target audience of male hardcore music fans as they artists on the front are either current or past members in a band or are a solo artist the current audience will be more enticed to pick up the magazine consequently boosting sales as they are still buying and reading if the audience likes that star they will view more.
Masthead style:
The masthead is in block capitals which is very refined which is very similar to the music type as rock music is taken seriously. It is in a  sans serif font as it is made to be sensible/serious.
Main coverline style:
This is used as block capitals to make the text stand out even though it is only a small text. They have also used multiple colour to make the text more appealing to the audience.
Puff:
This is made to make the Mojo magazine look more popular and if there are readers of other magazines seeing this magazine looking popular it is going to gain a bigger audience therefore more people will look into the genre therefore expanding the audience.
Placement of text:The text around the edge of the star vehicle as it is the first thing you see when looking at the magazine so therefore it does not direct attention away from it. So it will cause more people interested in that genre of music to pick up the magazine.

See Terminology page.

22/11/18 To explore the use of media language in music videos.

Thriller by Micheal Jackson.
In the music video there are a lot of film based time as this music video is 14 minutes long, this is unusually long even for now this is a narrative music video. This cost $500,000 to make, this was incredibly expensive for the time.In the video there is lots of low key lighting to help with the dark scenery and scary themes.

Castle on the hill by Ed Sheeran
The camera is using a tracking shot to keep focus on Ed Sheeran through out this scene as, as he is walking the camera is following him the same speed. In the video the lyrics of the song are projected upon what is happening in the music video so this is a narrative.

To explore and analyse the use of media language in chosen case studies. 29/11/18

Analyse the media language in your music videos. How are they similar/different?
Include:

Editing- editing pace, effects.distinctive juxtaposition.
Mise-en-scène- use of setting/location, lighting, costume.

Narrative- montage or linear narrative.

Analysis for Little Mix Black Magic:
1)The artists perform to the camera.

8)The colour is not saturated in the  music video.
9)It promotes the values of perseverance.
10)The girls are all wearing short skirts and crop top so they are sexualised.

Analysis for The Vamps Somebody to you:
1)The artist are performing to the camera almost the whole time.
2)The video has a little sense of naturalism.
3)It follows the pop music conventions as it has people dancing and acting.
4)No there is not diegetic sound.
5)The editing is paced with the song as to changes fairly often.
6)The video is more of a montage as it changes the clip and has not storyline.
7)The camerawork is not very smooth it looks handheld.
8)The colour is not very concentrated.
9)It promotes the values of spending time with friends and having fun.
10)The girls are wearing shorts and crop tops and the boys are wearing leather jackets to make both of them seem attractive.

Representation  in music videos:           3/12/18
To analyse representation in music videos.

Little Mix Black magic:

They are made to look popular are attractive.

`The producers are making them look like they are the 'not attractive or popular' people.
This suggests that they were a small unpopular music group and now they are very famous and successful.
The producers have used bags and books to gain a sense of realism and it could mean that the nerdy people have them but to be popular they don't need to concentrate on their work.
Its set in a school as this is a common place of peer pressure and wanting to look good.
The music video promotes values of loving yourself and taking care of how you look.
The producers use the typical stereotypes for girls as stye are wearing crop tops and skirts.

The Vamps Somebody to you:

They are wearing shorts and t-shirts as it connotes their lifestyle and the sunny weather.

They are wearing leather jackets and jeans to look cool and desirable.
They are playing with a football in the video to show they are energetic an sociable.
The video is set on and beside a beach to give the producers a chance to work with different clothing and so they can incorporate the sea.
The music video promotes the values of friendship and socialism.
The girls in the video are all wearing shorts skirts and crop tops and small clothes.

The Vamps:
1)People assume that love associated with heterosexual.
2)To go out with your mates and socialise, also being friends and doing things out of your comfort zone.
3)Race is not represented.
4)Gender is presented with the girls all wearing short skirts/shorts and crop tops and they boys are wearing t-shirts and shorts.
5)Disability is not represented in the music video.
6)The guys are on the beach, the girls are wearing revealing clothes, and the guys are playing football.
7)The artist are presented as energetic and sporty guys.
8)The UK society is presented as all liking football.
9)Slick hair is shown as attractive  in the video as is revealing clothes.
10)The videos ends out a message of being confident.

Little Mix:
1)Heterosexuality is assumed when love is covered.
2)The video celebrates social wellbeing and being around your friends.
3)Race his not represented.
4)Gender is shown with he girls wearing revealing clothes and age is not represented.
5)Disability is not represented.
6) The girls are wearing short skirts and small tops.
7)The artists are represented as nerdy at the start and becoming popular at the end.
8)The Uk society is represented as stereotypical.
9)Revealing clothes are represented as attractive and desirable and make up is deemed as attractive.
10)The video gives a message that anyone can become popular with a bit of luck.

Exam Practice             13/12/18
LO:To review representation of videos and practice exam style questions.

The mise-en-scene is based in the setting of narrative/performance as they are both in natural logy and are in real locations. The soundtracks are dominated by the music more than the diegetic sound.

The vamps have a much more exotic location compared to the high school. The Vamps use handheld cameras and it look much more music video like compared to little mix which uses static cameras to make it look like a film.

Both celebrate being young, not caring. Both want to be a popular crowd at school.

Stereotypical use of the male gaze and the females are objectified. Little mix has female leads but the narrative is to become attractive to men. In Black magic relationships are seen as a battle for attention.

Exam Practice:
Explain one way in which music videos use media language to differ from each other.
Refer to one example of contrasting media language in two music videos you have studied to support your answer.

I am comparing The Vamps 'Somebody to you' and Little Mix 'Black Magic' and will be focusing on editing. One way that music videos use editing  is in Somebody to you by the vamps, the editing is very jerky and keeps up with the pace of the song. The video cuts over small amounts of time so it keeps upbeat with the song. It is made look like a homemade music video especially as it uses no cgi at all, when the scene changes it uses a very quick wipe effect. Black Magic by Little Mix uses slower editing to the vamps but it is still fast paced editing as it jumps cuts to fit the pace of the song which is fast. This video uses lots of CGI as it is all about magic  so it is very different to the vamps.

Radio 1 Live lounge:
to research the radio industry and BBC Radio 1.

The BBC run 10 different radio stations. They're all radio stations that are individually suited to the type of music they play.
There are more than 50 regional stations.
The BBC Radio stations are funded publicly due to license fees.
The direct competition is BBC Radio to PSB radio.
5 commercial radio stations are Classic FM, Kiss, MAGIC, Talk sport and Absolute Radio.
There are different ways to listen to the BBC Such as Phones, Radios, and on the TV.

Radio 1 live lounge:                   14/1/19
to explore how the BBC Radio 1 live lounge meets its PSB remit and meets the needs of its target audience.

In the United Kingdom, the term "public service broadcasting" refers to broadcasting intended for public benefit rather than to serve purely commercial interests.(PSB)

Radio 1:
Every radio station works hard to establish and sustain a very distinctive sound and tone. The radio 1 presenters are close to the age of the target audience so stye will have common interests and will use common language. Targeting a young audience, the language of the presenters is energetic and restless.
The remit for radio 1 is to entertain and engage a broad range of young listeners.
Its target audience is 15-29 year olds.
It should offer a range of new music, supports  range of emerging artists - especially those from the uk and to provide a platform for live music.

BBC Radio 1 have met the  remit to entertain and engage a broad range of young listeners, support emerging UK artists and provide a platform for live music by only looking at the home page as they have a wide variety of genres for the music they offer.  The front page of the website is simplistic, this presents the show as chilled out and easily listened to. The current host of the radio is highlighted in white to make it easily spotted for the viewer and  using a bright colour as white, this contrasts the dark coloured background to attract attention. Radio 1 is well branded for the age group of 15-29 year olds as it provides new music that is played regularly.

Convergence:
Media convergence can refer to the merging of previously distinct media technologies  and media forms due to digitalisation and computer networking. When anyone is interviews on Radio 1 there will be exclusive experts that are only available on the live lounge link.

By being able to access the BBC Radio 2 live lounge through the platform of Vevo
the BBC gain publicity by being on another website that user of it may be newly interested in the Radio 1 Live Lounge, the episodes of the live lounge are kept forever unlike on the Radio 1 website. The website Vevo will gain more money as the website is gaining more views and will also gain a larger audience. The audience will gain an easier way to access the radio station that can be on the Vevo website and also on another platform, youtube.

Regulation      17/1/19To explore how the BBC is regulated.

The radio industry is regulated by of com, who also cover the TV industry. They monitor the content that goes on the TV/Radio.
Ofcoms role:
Ensuring the optimal use of the electromagnetic spectrum.
Ensuring the at a win spread of electronic services - including high speed data services - is available throughout the United Kingdom.
Ensuring that a wide range of TV and radio services of high quality and wide appeal.
Maintaining plurality in the provision of broad casting.
Applying adequate protection for audiences against offensive or harmful material.
Applying adequate protection for audiences again unfairness or the infringement of privacy.
Plurality is ensuring there is a diversity of viewpoints available and consumed across media sources and enterprises.

Protection of under 18's:
Material that might seriously impair the physical, mental or moral development of people under eighteen must not be broadcast.
In the provision of services, broadcasters must take all reasonable steps to protect people under 18.
Children must also be protected in the form of appropriate scheduling ensuring that they are not privy to material that is unsuitable for them.
To me appropriate scheduling means that Tv shows that are on after a certain time may not be relevant to younger children as there is more mature language, but before that time younger children may not want to be watching the older programs that have worse language.

This live lounge like show is going to be made for classical music, it will be running 4 days a week, it will have short parts of asking the presenters questions via social media. It would be broadcast from an area with a higher population e.g Spain/France. The show would have to be aware of the standard midday rules set by OfCom, such as if a younger child was to end up watching it the show would need to be family friendly so anyone can watch it. The show has a target audience for 45-70 year olds. The show would be broadcast at around 9:00am-3:00pm as the target audience will be awake and ready to watch it even if they go out later in the day. The general demographic for this would be advertised on the radio e.g BBC Radio 2 and 4, it would have segments of the news as that usually appeals to an older demographic.

I have chosen this this design as it connotes to the older ages due to the vinyl record and the pale yellow make the show seem chilled out.

Live Lounge:     24/1/19

To analyse the structure of the live lounge and the audience appeal.

The live lounge is aired at the same time on the BBC Radio1Xtra by Clara Amfo. It was originally hosted by Jo Whiley on her midmorning radio show until 2009.\
The benefit of broadcasting on two channels allows artists to be broadcast across two of the radio platforms - either to a more niche audience or enabling a wider audience for a band.

Clara Amfo:
Background- She attended St. Mary's University College, Twickenham. She graduated with a degree in media arts with professional and creative writing. Her first job following university was with Nickelodeon as a radio presenter.
Previous presenting jobs- Nickelodeon, Kiss Fm.
Awards-Glamour award for radio personality.
Job- Presnts the live lounge on Radio 1.

DJ Ace:
Background-Studied at The BRIT School in London.
Previous presenting jobs-BBC Radio 1Xtra, BBC Blast.
Awards-Gold sony radio academy award.
Job now-Radio 1Xtra.

The content of the live lounge appeals to the audience of the live lounge as the music is chosen to be directed towards the age group of 15-24 year olds and this age group can have  a wide variety of music.

Other radio shows don't play live music like the live lounge, the artists there play one of their songs and then do a cover of someone else.
Convergence:

You can access lots of different links like the best of the live lounge and the current station that is being played. It mentions Ariana Grande at the current time. It has the best of the live lounge episode available to watch.
